The Regional Ministry for the Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery has admitted for processing a request for a Declaration of Community Interest to establish a motorhome campsite on non-building rural land in Daya Nueva. The municipality, which has a population of around 1,800 residents, could host the eco-tourism camper area on a 10,428-square-metre plot located in the La Canaleta area. This site lies approximately 300 metres from a branch of the AP-7 motorway, 600 metres from the urban centre of Daya Nueva, and 1.2 kilometres from Almoradi.
Out of the total area, 8,169 square metres will be dedicated to the activity, offering 25 exclusive spaces for motorhomes, while the remaining 2,258 square metres will remain unbuilt and open space. The proposal aims to provide a regulated temporary stay facility equipped with essential basic services, including drinking water, grey and black water discharge, electricity supply, toilets, a reception, a barbecue area, and a swimming pool. According to the developer, this project responds to the growing demand for touring tourism and helps diversify local tourism offerings.
The designated plot carries flood risk warnings on both regional and national maps. According to the Territorial Action Plan on Flood Risk Prevention in the Valencian Community (Patricova), the land is classified as level 2 flood hazard. The project documentation notes that this indicates a relevant probability of flooding capable of generating significant water depth. Consequently, self-protection and prevention measures will be required during heavy rainfall episodes to minimise personal, material, and environmental damage. The proposal suggests closing the plot and evacuating campsite guests if meteorological agencies such as Aemet issue an orange warning or higher.
Additionally, the National Flood Zone Cartography System lists the area within a flood zone corresponding to a 500-year return period of fluvial origin, where water depths would not exceed 0.123 metres. The land also carries a high risk of accidents involving the transport of hazardous goods under the Special Plan of the Valencian Community.
The developer justifies locating the project on non-building land due to the intrinsic nature of campsite activities and their connection to the natural environment. Facilities will occupy just 4.41% of the site, well below the maximum 20% limit set by the municipal regulations of Daya Nueva. Buildings will be single-storey, lightweight structures with limited landscape impact. Access to the plot is via a 4-metre-wide unpaved rural track, the Vereda de los Terreses, from the CV-902 road, which the developer pledges to upgrade without altering its public or rural status.
Surrounding the site are traditional irrigated crops, particularly citrus and vegetables, within a municipality where 73% of the land is dedicated to agriculture. The developer notes that around 400,000 motorhomes visit Spain each year from across Europe, highlighting the potential to attract long-stay tourists from countries such as France, Germany, and Italy.
The estimated construction cost for the project is €197,587. Regarding the annual use canon, set at 2% for the first five years of the 30-year operational licence, the developer has requested a five-year payment deferral and a 50% reduction on the grounds that the venture will generate local employment.
