The municipal political group Sueña Torrevieja has submitted a motion for the upcoming municipal plenary session in Torrevieja demanding regular assessments, contract transparency, and service improvements across the town’s newly restructured urban bus network. The initiative calls for urgent attention to public transport connections serving the Hospital Universitario de Torrevieja, local health centres, educational facilities, La Mata, and surrounding residential developments.
Pablo Samper, spokesperson for Sueña Torrevieja, emphasised that introducing modern vehicles and announcing improvements is not enough on its own. He stressed that the local council must actively monitor service performance, listen to user feedback, and promptly rectify shortcomings that fail to deliver practical benefits for daily commuters.
The roll-out of the revised municipal transport service began on 27 July, with the final stages scheduled for completion during 2027. According to Sueña Torrevieja, changes to routes, lines, timetables, and service frequencies have generated notable frustration and dissatisfaction among local residents. The group argues that robust oversight mechanisms must be implemented immediately before current operating flaws become deeply entrenched.
Samper pointed out that reliable public transport is essential for thousands of citizens across Torrevieja, particularly elderly residents, students, households without private vehicles, and individuals living in developments situated away from the town centre. He warned against allowing a project that was designed to improve daily journeys to complicate everyday travel.
The motion outlines seven specific proposals, including the compilation of regular monitoring reports covering punctuality, operating frequencies, schedule adherence, passenger numbers, service incidents, and territorial coverage. It also seeks formal evaluations regarding whether the concessionaire is fulfilling all statutory obligations established within the municipal contract.
Additionally, Sueña Torrevieja urges the town council to introduce an accessible channel to collect passenger complaints and suggestions so public input can be integrated into future route adjustments. The group has also called for all tracking reports and performance data to be published openly on the municipal website to provide full transparency on contractor compliance and council oversight.
