Ryanair will change the closing time for its check-in and baggage drop desks at airports, affecting travellers departing from Alicante. The Irish airline is bringing forward the deadline from the current 40 minutes to one hour before flight departure, meaning passengers travelling with checked bags will need to complete this process earlier.
The company aims to prevent travellers from missing their flights due to delays in security or passport control queues. The measure, announced in April, extends the available margin by 20 minutes to complete these procedures before heading to the boarding gate.
The new rule applies to passengers who need to check in baggage at airport desks. According to the company, this group accounts for approximately 20% of its travellers.
Those flying solely with hand luggage and who have completed the relevant procedures can follow the usual process, as the change focuses on closing check-in and baggage drop desks.
Ryanair’s Marketing Director, Dara Brady, has reminded passengers of the importance of arriving with sufficient time and completing check-in and baggage drop before the service closes, which is now set at 60 minutes before departure.
The schedule change will be accompanied by the installation of self-service bag drop kiosks at airports. These devices will be integrated with the Ryanair application and will allow passengers to complete the process and print the tags that must be placed on their luggage.
With this initiative, the airline intends to streamline pre-boarding procedures and offer more margin to passengers who have to pass through security and documentation controls. In any case, those planning to fly with Ryanair from Alicante and needing to check in a bag must keep the new limit in mind, ensuring luggage is checked and handed over at least 60 minutes before the scheduled flight departure time.
