The Los Verdes green party of Torrevieja has praised the town hall for cleaning an area in the heart of a residential zone, although they do point out that the action has only just been auctioned after 12 years of complaints from the residents.
The site at the Lago Jardin I urbanisation has been an eyesore for over a decade, and has now been cleared by the municipal brigades, after two weeks of activities, but the residents may still not be too happy as the clearing is to make the plot suitable for building on, rather than conversion to a space of aesthetic quality.
The neighbours themselves had attempted to prune back trees, remove weeds and overgrowing plants, as well as having to face persistent clouds of dusts blown into their homes from the plot, but all of that will soon be a thing of the past, as the land is earmarked for the building of 200 social houses, having donated the land to the Generalitat Valenciana.
The plot of land was the subject of a media tour conducted a short time ago by the Los Verdes, at the time when other areas of neglect were being highlighted, such as the Casa y Torre de Los Balcones.
Although the need for social housing is important, and the site may now be clear and clean, it will only be a matter of time before the neighbours have to put up with further disruption as construction begins on the 200 anticipated homes, despite other social housing in the area remaining vacant.
