The General University Hospital of Elche, in Alicante, has launched an ostomy patient school, an initiative designed to provide support, training, and guidance to individuals with an ostomy, as well as their families and carers.
The project has been driven by nurses Susana López and Patricia Moreno from the urology and surgery departments. The primary objective is to help patients adapt to their new reality, contributing to their overall well-being and quality of life.
Organisers highlighted that the initiative aims to focus on the individual rather than solely on their status as an ostomy patient. The school seeks to become a support network where each participant can find guidance and information to address the challenges associated with an ostomy.
The first sessions of this new space took place recently under the theme of sharing information and experiences, providing a meeting point to resolve doubts, acquire practical knowledge, and exchange personal stories.
