The driver was apprehended at Los Montesinos tolls

Traffico couldn’t believe their radar when they clocked a driver speeding past them last weekend at 237 km/h, very nearly double the legal speed limit of 120 km/h in the direction of Los Montesinos tolls on the Alicante-Cartagena motorway.

They were even further amazed when they eventually apprehended him at the toll, carried out a breath test and checked his documents, to find that he was very nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit and that he was driving without a license, as it had earlier been removed by a court order.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the Alicante-Cartagena motorway. A radar control gun operated by Traffico agents of the Civil Guard spotted a vehicle that passed them at 237 km/h on a stretch of motorway where the limit was 120.

Shortly after passing the Guardia radar the vehicle was stopped at the toll booth on the AP-7 in Los Montesinos where the officers arrested the driver, a man in his mid 40’s, for speeding.

A breath test was carried out to which the driver tested positive. The rate he gave was 0.70 milligrams per liter of breath, almost three times the legal limit of 0.25.

Following the necessary procedures and checks the driver was released by the Guardia Civil although his vehicle, an Audi A-6, was removed to a Traffico compound.
