As the Spanish traffic department prepares for the first major road operation of Easter this weekend, the anticipated movement figure nationally has been anticipated at 12 million vehicles, although this figure is the lowest forecast since 2005.
Across the Valencia region, taking in the Costa Blanca and such hot spots as Benidorm, Torrevieja and Orihuela, the DGT anticipate approximately 1,535,000 vehicle movements on roads between 15:00 on Friday and 24:00 on Sunday.
Provincially, 770,000 vehicle movements are expected across Valencia, 500,000 in Alicante and the remaining 265,000 in Castellón.
The A-7 motorway is expected to be particularly busy, as well as the main N-332 coastal road. The usual high traffic problems in Alicante will be the A-70 motorway at the entrances and exits of the Alicante and on the N-332 at Altea, El Altet, Santa Pola and Torrevieja.
In order to ease the flow of traffic, most major road works will be suspended, the transport of dangerous goods will be prohibited and the traffic police will be out in force. The DGT will be utilising the “full” human resources available, with the Guardia Civil, Traffic Management Centre, Helicopter Patrols, and maintenance workers prioritising prompt repairs in the event of incidents. Mobile radar speed detectors will be increased this weekend, with 250 different teams operating.
