The talented youngsters of the Cantemos! Youth Choir.

On Sunday night a packed audience was treated to a double-delight concert given by the Orihuela Costa Male Voice Choir and the talented youngsters of the Cantemos! Youth Choir.

Fully 20 minutes before the concert started potential patrons who had not purchased tickets beforehand were politely turned away as every seat was taken.

The Male Voice Choir started with a wide variety of music ranging from Wand’rin’ Star, Some Enchanted Evening, and of course the appropriate Welsh hymn tunes for which male choirs are famous. Then along came Cantemos! Youth with an entire programme of Abba songs which delighted the enthusiastic audience – bringing them to their feet on several occasions.

The well-known soloists of Cantemos! – including three of the finest on the Costa, Janelle Gaskell, Elise MacGregor and Holly Neeson won great acclaim with Super Trouper and Lay All Your Love On Me. Joining them was a first-time soloist, Gemma Garcia Gamble, who sang Our Last Summer much to the great satisfaction of the thrilled audience.

The Male Voice Choir returned with several more show-stopping songs. At this point conductor and professional singer, Nigel Hopkins, led the choir singing Funiculi, Funicula in both Italian and English which drew the biggest applause of the evening.

The concert rounded off with both choirs concluding with Softly As I Leave You and the rousing Thank You For The Music bringing the audience to their feet for the last time.

Costa Blanca Samaritans benefitted by 333€ from a raffle during the evening, and both choirs raised enough money for them both to receive new uniforms for next season.
