La Unidad Fox is a Police Unit set up in Alicante to target illegal street vendors who deal in the sale of merchandising, be it sunglasses, bags, clothing or DVD’s, that may have been faked. In the last 12 months they have seized and destroyed over 130,000 items.
A spokesman said that the eradication of unauthorized hawking, especially of those items that are known to be counterfeit, is one of the main tasks of this specialized police unit in Alicante.
In recent years the pressure to end these practices has become a priority, as evidenced by the 134 arrests and prosecutions made during the last year.
In addition to the Fox Unit a further 20,000 counterfeit products have been confiscated by officers from the Policia Local.
