The centre's first patient

Guardamar Health Centre has a new Radiology unit that started working from today, 4th August. The first patient was an 84 year old British woman from San Fulgencio.

The Councillor for Health of the Generalitat Valenciana, Manuel Llombart has visited the centre to see the new installation, accompanied by the Mayoress of Guardamar, Carmen Verdú and the whole government team.

Carmen Verdú stated that with this investment of 65,000€ "we will avoid the need of residents having to go out of the way to Torrevieja for standard x- rays, and the resulting benefit of lowering waiting times"

The new service is going to benefit more than 60,000 residents, not just in Guardamar but also in Rojales, San Fulgencio, Benijófar and Formentera del Segura. It is estimated that the new radiology unit will do more than 5,000 scans a year

Last year, a total of 1,954 patients from the Guardamar health Centre had to go to Torrevieja, either the hospital or La Loma just to have single x rays or thorax (chest) scans.

The 65,000 Euros invested have gone into the equipment, the kitting out of the room and an Auxiliary qualified in Radiology.

The radiology department works daily from 09.30 to 1.30pm in the Guardamar Health Centre
