CD TORREVIEJA ……….1 CD CASTELLON…………0 Following two consecutive victories and, importantly, two consecutive clean sheets, Torry manager Galiana is at last looking optimistically at his team’s prospects for getting out of Tercera and gaining promotion to Segunda B, and with the midweek addition of Ferron, a goal scoring winger from Jumilla, going into the game against Castellon, he was hoping that another 3 pts would firmly establish him in the playoff mix come Sunday evening.
Meanwhile with the arrival of men like Javi Selvas and Rubén Suárez, and after a spectacular start to the season, the big spending visitors had picked up just one draw from their previous 3 outings, so the home side went into this game in a confident mood which showed from the very start with quick and accurate passing and fast flowing football.
The first opportunity fell to Burguillos on just 6 mins but his header was just off target. On the quarter hour it was the turn of the visitors when Carrascosa really should have done better than blast over with just Oscar to beat. However all the pressure was coming from Torry which paid off with the opening goal on 20 mins, a fierce drive from Borja just inside the post.
A 30 yard effort from Vicente ‘sniffed’ the Castellon goal on the half hour before Steve headed in just prior to the half time interval.
Unfortunately, what we thought was Torry’s 2nd was ruled out for offside.
It was a goal that they almost needed as the 2nd period saw a complete upturn in the Castellon form. They took the game to Torry and with better finishing might have won the game comfortably.
Efforts from Carrascosa, Selvas and Adria should all have ended up in the back of the net. But this was battling performance from the home side against a very good Castellon outfit and between two teams that will surely be in the mix come the end of the season.
Next week a long trek up the AP7, away to struggling CD Acero
