MAJOR AIRLINES SHOW CORVERA INTEREST

The Murcia regional Minister of Works, Manuel Campos, has announced this week that a number of major airlines are already interested in flying from the new regional airport at Corvera.

According to Campos, so far, Ryanair, Air Europa and Air Berlin have all expressed an interest in operating from the airport, which is set to replace San Javier as the flight feeder for the region of Murcia.

Campos also stressed that the recent date of the 15th of December is still on target for the airport receiving the appropriate licenses to open as a flight hub, which would allow for the airport to be open to traffic from the 2nd of April, 2015.

The final inspection of Corvera is due shortly, with the facilities being put under the microscope for a final time, despite favourable results in all safety and operational tests so far.

Whilst talking about the confirmed closure of San Javier to passenger traffic, the minister also said that he hoped that it will still have a bright future, and that the Ministry of Defence will continue to grow and promote the military airfield and that it will become a “benchmark” for such operations in the future.
