Listen to this articleHere on the coast we are of course all absolutely delighted that the preparation for Christmas in Orihuela seems to be well underway with the erection of many new lighting displays, as the Ayuntamiento and the Merchants Association (mAb) prepare their activities in anticipation of the forthcoming celebrations.
It is so heartwarming to appreciate that they are largely funded by the residents of the coast.
The Orihuela Association say that it all bodes well for the Christmas season during which they expect to see an increase in retail sales. However mAb spokesperson Mila Serna said that ‘ we are forced to take our initiatives ahead of schedule, as customers now spread their purchases over a much longer period, starting in late November and continuing into the early days of January sales campaign.’
She said that campaigns such as the Christmas lights are increasingly important to encourage local trade.
But as I see no such attractions being installed onto the streets and in the commercial areas of the Orihuela Costa it just seems such a pity that, once again, as is the case year on year, in their ivory towers in Orihuela the Ayuntamiento once again fail to realize that the same situation also applies to the residents of the coast who equally rely on such displays and incentives to bring in the trade to an area, the finances from which, largely fund Orihuela’s existence.
