Following the awful weather on Christmas Day 2013, the crowds flocked back to La Zenia beach in their thousands on Thursday, Christmas Day 2014.
The weather was excellent with warm sunshine and very little breeze. On schedule at 1230 JB Brass struck up to entertain the throng with Christmas Carols, Jingle Bells, WhiteChristmas, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and many others, which had everyone singing along.
It was a truly European Day with people from all corners of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Finland, Denmark and of course Spain enjoying the festivities.
An interesting feature of the day was the presence of a Drone hovering over the beach for most of the day.
As usual the Torrevieja Costa Lions Club were present, raising funds this year for ALPE, the educational and social welfare centre for handicapped children and young adults in Torrevieja.
The Lions collection took place during the JBB concert and Lion President Iain Bennett is delighted to announce that 788.30 euros was raised in just one hour. In addition to the collection from the crowd, the Lion President also received two exceptional individual donations, one from a gentleman from Quesada who donated 1,000.00 euros and the other from a group in Los Dolces who donated 200.00 euros. So on the day Lions Charities benefitted to the total of 1,988.30 euros.
There are currently a few gallons of whisky to be won in aid of the Lions charities, one is located in Monos bar, Quesada, another in Lo Marabu, Quesada and one in Montes Bar in Los Montesinos. All funds raised will go to ALPE, Torrevieja.
The bottles in The Marabu Lounge and Quesada Fish and Chips have already been won.
On behalf of the Club, the Lion President thanks everyone who has participated in the prize draws and donated at the beach.
