LA ZENIA BUS STOP PLANS SUBMITTED

After many years of suffering with a lack of bus stops at La Zenia, plans have now been submitted to the ministry to have these stops reinstated.

La Zenia was served by buses on the N-332 long before the road was widened, but once the new section was opened to traffic, there had been no facilities created for buses in this area, largely blamed on the fact that the town hall had never requested them to be put back as part of the widening project around a decade ago.

In fact, as previously reported, the so called General Plan of Orihuela still shows the N-332 in its smaller, single-lane carriageway state, as the plans were never previously adjusted.

Buses still stopped on the road to allow passengers to board and alight, but with frequent fines, congestion and a risk to the safety of road users, the bus operator decided that stopping on the illegal site where the stops should be was no longer a viable option.

Now, the final project to create the bus stops, as well as additional parking for 24 cars at La Zenia, have been sent to the ministry of streets in Alicante for final approval.

The project cost is 126,000 euro, which is a considerable amount an, according to the Councillor for the Orihuela Costa, Martina Scheurer, would have been a cost covered as part of the original widening plans, had the then government requested them, as was the case in neighbouring municipalities who enjoyed a bus service without interruption.
