The Partido Popular (PP) Administration of San Miguel de Salinas continues to violate basic constitutional rights with their refusal to disclose details of the contact to the private company Aguagest for the supply of drinking water and santitaion to its residents.
The Association of Neighbours ‘San Miguel Arcangel’ has continued to challenge this and took this very matter to The Síndico de Agravios, the arbitrator, a matter of ten months ago and their case has been upheld. The Arbitrator agrees that the PP Administration violates no less than 5 Articles of The Spanish Constitution by not disclosing details of the contract, when requested to do so, by representatives of the community of San Miguel de Salinas.
The response from The PP Administration to The Arbitrator has been the same as it was to The Association of Neighbours – silence and a disregard for the rule of law. The Association claims this to be a deplorable and defenceless situation denying the rights of residents in having the full facts of this contract for water and sanitation. The Association also highlights that the administration is ignoring the democratic values of transparency and resident participation in important issues and is mismanaging the administration of the community by failing to provide basic information.
Why, states the Association, should these failings constantly require bodies, such as themselves, to be forced to resort to the courts to resolve issues like this? It suggests a general disregard for the rights and interests of the general population. The issue of the privatisation of water and sanitation in San Miguel de Salinas will continue.
