One of the most iconic buildings in the region, the ancient citadel and Castillo de Guardamar del Segura, enjoys a privileged position dominating much of the Vega Baja, and now the castle also benefits from the installation of new lighting.
At a cost of 60.000€ the installation began at the end of last summer. It was heavily subsidized by grants from both the Alicante Provincial Government and the Valencian Generalitat, and now this impressive structure can also be admired deep into the evening and night.
In tandem with the electrical work a council gang was also employed on the castle slopes carrying out maintenance and cleaning tasks so now the whole area is in pristine condition and ready to welcome the hundreds of locals and tourists who are expected to visit the site during the coming months.
The mayor, Carmen Verdú, said that the City Council "is committed to the conservation and enhancement of the town’s archaeological heritage.
The Castillo is an important feature of the town and helps attract tourists to the area, to which it also adds a great deal of value. "
