The spokesperson for the liberal CLr party of Orihuela, Pedro Mancebo, has announced this week that he will not be on the list of candidates to contest the elections in May, and will not be standing as a candidate to govern in the next political term.
The announcement was a surprise to many people, including residents of the Orihuela Costa, who believed that Mancebo would be fighting the elections with the intention or hoping to get the position of Mayor.
However, the politician who briefly held the position of Councillor for the Orihuela Costa has now said that the reason for not standing is a “personal decision”, but also said that it is time to “renew the lists”, and add “fresh faces” and “ideas”, thus making way for a new wave of politicians from all political groups set to lead Orihuela in the next term.
In a press conference this week, Mancebo said that “I think you can still contribute a lot and try to recover and straighten the damage that these two years of socialist and green government solidarity has caused”.
“We have to see how many people are willing and able to lead an electoral list, considering that politics is an exercise in risk, with the possibility of injury from demagoguery and lies”, he concluded, adding that whoever does stand as a candidate “must be very brave”.
