The Valencia region has experienced the wettest March since 1950, with an average rainfall of 143.9 litres per square metre.
Moreover, in Castellón, the province has been the wettest since records began, some 100 years ago, according to data provided by the Spanish Met Office, AEMET.
In March of the year 1915, Morella and Vilafranca suffered rainfall of 140.2 litres per square metre. In 1989, this was 162.9 litres per square metre. By contrast, in the data collected up until 25th of this month, they recorded around 320 litres per square metre.
In fact, in eleven municipalities in the province of Castellón, rainfall has exceeded 300 litres per square metre.
In the province of Valencia, Barx accumulated 271 litres per square metre, Buñol experienced 266.5 square metres and Sagunto saw 199.7 litres per square metre.
The good news for those living on the southern side of the region is that the Alicante province has not been quite so wet. Alcoy suffered the most rainfall, but only accumulating 82.6 litres per square metre, followed by Villena with 52 litres per square metre, and Orihuela with 47, Benidorm with 28.8 and Pinoso with 19.6 litres per square metre.
