Five arrests were made in the raids and when they appeared in an Alicante Court last week, on the first day of what could be a lengthy trial, the Prosecuting Counsel called for a total of 100 years jail time for the five accused.

The list of offenses with which the five are charged is lengthy and includes the illegal possession of weapons, drug trafficking, forgery, two counts of burglary and two of theft, assault, tax fraud, burglary with violence and disobedience.

Police said that the material recovered was substantial, comprising of electronic equipment such as mobile phones, laptops and cameras, 3,000 euros, numerous false documents, license plates, keys to luxury cars as well as firearms and documentation.

The defendants are alleged to have engaged in a large variety of criminal activities which included theft from vehicles belonging to foreign visitors who were arriving at El Altet airport.

The individual appearing in the dock are all men of Moroccan and Algerian nationality between 29 and 35 years.

When the raid took place they are all said to have resisted arrest putting up quite a fight against the police agents. Two of them escaped from the house but were eventually arrested later on the same day.
