The schedule was presented in the company of the councillor of culture, Domingo Pérez, the President of the OST, Pelayo Mellado, and its director, José Francisco Sánchez, along with violinist Stanislav Tkachm who, as a novelty, will direct a new series of four concerts of Chamber Music.

Domingo Pérez was the first to present the work of the OST, emphasising its cultural contribution to the city of Torrevieja. “Having a group that is in charge of both, as the orchestra’s directors do, is an irreplaceable aid and always offers a cultural proposal of the first order,” said the councillor, praising the orchestra for the great reception they have at their concerts , “We all know the amount of the people who listens to them assiduously.”

In turn, Pelayo Mellado explained that this season is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra. To celebrate these ten years, the association has announced a new program consisting of six concerts with prestigious European artists. In addition, a book is being published that includes the history, which will be presented on October 24th.

Regarding the concerts, the program has been designed with the public in mind and will have a classic repertoire like the first of them, on October 27, with music by Tchaikovsky and Dvorak, and a concert for flute and orchestra by the soloist Jordi López, who will play Mozart and Schubert on December 2. There will also be two concerts to celebrate the New Year and Three Kings on the 5th and 6th of January with waltzes, polka and Spanish music. On March 2 a concert will be held in honour of the Nordic audience with the music of Grieg.

In spring, the OST has prepared a much-requested concert, taking place on April 6, with popular movie soundtracks such as Memories of Africa, Jurassic Park, Gladiator, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The program will end with a concert of Spanish music with preludes and interludes of Zarzuelas on May 11.

José Francisco Sánchez wanted to thank the board of directors, the musicians and the sponsors for the work throughout the years. “This orchestra started as a chamber group, a quartet that I had the illusion to improve, with the goal of achieving a dream and filling the Torrevieja International Auditorium. This dream has been fulfilled. We have more than twenty concerts doing it “, he said.

Pelayo Mellado and José Francisco Sánchez also wanted to thank the original resident audience, especially from countries such as Germany, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, as well as Torrevieja, who have begun to attend concerts more frequently.

Apart from the programming of the OST, the cycle of four concerts of Chamber Music has been organized in the Auditorium chamber room, which has 420 seats in total and “very good acoustics”, in the words of Mellado. “We have put some very affordable prices, about eight euro per ticket and seven euro for the members.” The president also reminded all concerned that this year a bus service has been launched to take attendees to the auditorium with stops at Eras de la Sal, Hotel Fontana and BP Gas Station, a very useful service for all retirees and seniors who live far from the place.

The violinist Stanislav Tkach, director of the new cycle, has detailed the dates and the programming of the four concerts, ensuring that in his trips to 22 countries he had never met such a welcoming audience. In fact, this project has been made to grant the numerous requests of the public who also asked for chamber music. The cycle opens on September 15 at 20:00 with a selection of works by Beethoven and Shostakovich. The second concert, with compositions by Mozart, will be on January 26. The third, April 20, will be held to celebrate Holy Week with music by Handel, Vivaldi and Bach, and in the last one, on June 8, there will be performances by Mozart and Haydn.

Finally, Mellado clarified that the tickets for the concerts can be purchased every Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and in the afternoon, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the headquarters of the entity, on calle Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, 23.
