The Mayor of Santa Pola went to the Roads Unit in Alicante and demanded that work on the project to link to the Rocas Blancas hotel, the access from Gran Alacant, the connection to Playa Lisa, and the enlargement of one of the most accident-prone regions in the province be restarted.
Mayor Loreto Serrano, Traffic Councillor Ana Blasco, and municipal urban planning lawyer Emilio Jordán met with officials from the State Highways Unit at the Government Sub-delegation in Alicante to talk about problems with the connections of the 332 Alicante-Cartagena national highway as it goes through Santa Pola.
The City Council’s main goal is to get the project going again that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility put on hold. This project would make it easier to get to the Rocas Blancas hotel from the N-332, which is one of the worst traffic black spots in our province because of the number of accidents that happen there.
The widening of this major road, which causes traffic jams as it travels through our municipality, was also on the table. It connects the main road at Playa Lisa and the acceleration lane from the Gran Alacant exit to Alicante.
The mayor said, “The Alicante Highways Unit has agreed to our requests, but they are sending us straight to Madrid to deal with these problems.” But after this discussion, we are looking into the idea that, with the Ministry’s authorisation, the City Council may write the project and make the Gran Alacant and Playa Lisa links on its own. We want to fix these problems as quickly as possible because they are very crucial for Santa Pola to deal with.
