An individual has been arrested by the Guardia Civil and the Santa Pola Local Police following the dismantling of a marijuana plantation in a residence situated in the town centre of the Alicante municipality.
The Investigation Unit of the Santa Pola Main Station initiated the investigation in January 2026 following the receipt of information from the Local Police. The investigation was prompted by a variety of reports from neighbours of a house situated in a central area of the town, near schools and a municipal sports centre, as stated by the Guardia Civil in a statement. The initial enquiries confirmed that the property was emitting a persistent cannabis odour.
Additionally, the resident’s precautionary and surveillance measures were consistent with the potential presence of an indoor plantation, as evidenced by the analysis of the actions taken. After the requisite evidence was collected, a house search was conducted, which revealed a cannabis plantation with plants in varying phases of growth, enabling the continuation of commercial production. The facility was entirely dismantled and was equipped with all the necessary elements for cultivation.
The operation resulted in the apprehension of the individual responsible, as well as the seizure of 54 marijuana plants and 27 grams of buds. A 36-year-old male was detained and charged with a crime against public health for the cultivation and processing of narcotics. He was brought before the Investigating Section of the Court of First Instance in Elche and subsequently released with the imposition of precautionary measures.
