A 43-year-old woman has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in the municipality of San Vicente del Raspeig (Alicante) as the putative perpetrator of a robbery with violence against an elderly woman that occurred on a public road during the day, as part of the Senior Citizen Security Plan.
Officers received a report of a violent robbery against an 88-year-old woman on March 13th, which is when the incident took place. The Guardia Civil detailed in a statement that the victim was injured in a struggle during the assault, during which the perpetrator tore her earlobes and pulled off her gold earrings.
Given the victim’s vulnerability and the severity of the injuries, a search operation was initiated immediately, which included both uniformed and plainclothes patrols. The area’s security camera footage was also examined to capture images of the suspected perpetrator fleeing the scene after perpetrating the crime.
The perpetrator, a resident of San Vicente del Raspeig, was identified as a result of the police operation’s effectiveness. A search operation was subsequently initiated, which culminated in her apprehension in a local park a few hours after the robbery.
Simultaneously, investigators contacted various gold buying and selling establishments. They located the stolen earrings at one of them, recovered them, and returned them to their rightful owner, who was still shaken by the incident.
The arrested woman had made numerous jewellery sales.
The investigation has revealed that the arrested woman had made numerous jewellery sales at these types of establishments in recent years. It has also been established that the alleged perpetrator has worked for the past several years as a healthcare professional at a hospital in the province, and the possibility that she may have stolen jewellery from patients has not been ruled out.
For this reason, the investigation remains open in collaboration with the aforementioned hospital to locate any additional victims. The detainee was brought before the competent judicial authority, which ordered her release with the imposition of precautionary measures.
This action is part of the Senior Safety Plan, an initiative aimed at preventing and improving the safety of older people, especially those who are in a vulnerable situation.
