The La Comarca Alternative Leisure Association and the Youth Department of the Torrevieja City Council have set the dates for the 12th edition of ComarCON, the best event in the area for “geek” culture and alternative leisure. The event will be held on Saturday, April 11th, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Sunday, April 12th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Palace of Sports
The conference is celebrating twice this year: it’s the twelfth edition and it’s been ten years since it moved from the Municipal Leisure Centre to the Palacio de los Deportes in Torrevieja, where it is now.
ComarCON has always been about being free and open to everyone, and it will continue to be so. The goal is to provide a safe, entertaining, and accessible venue for families and friends to enjoy together.
The group doesn’t want to shatter attendance records; instead, they want to achieve their main goal: to deliver alternative leisure activities to as many people as possible and, at the absolute least, to match the great response of the past edition.
Main events and guests
There are a lot of things planned for this year’s programme. The Cosplay Contest on Saturday afternoon and the colourful K-Pop Dance Championship on Sunday morning are two of the most exciting events that everyone is looking forward to. There will also be some humour and tradition at the event, such the now-famous “Hobbit Glutton” contest.
The event will also have top-level guests from the digital and creative worlds, such Manu Partida and the famous illustrator Shaun Elay, who will talk about their work and experiences with people who come.
New app
The 12th ComarCON is debuting its own mobile app, which was made by a staff member of the organisation, to make the experience better for visitors. The software is available for download on Google Play and works best on iPhones. It lets visitors keep track of the full calendar, get notifications in real time, and not miss any of their favourite events.
The people who work at ComarCON are what makes it work.
The association works hard to put on the event, which includes dozens of competitions, workshops, board game areas, and role-playing games. Sergio Ros, the event’s coordinator and vice president of the La Comarca Alternative Leisure Association, wished to stress this human factor: “We are very proud of the work of the whole staff team.” They do an unseen and never-ending job, making time in their free hours all year long so that each ComarCON can be a success.
The Sports Palace will open its doors once the whole crew has finished making arrangements. Torrevieja will once again be the home of people looking for a different kind of weekend, where alternative leisure is an irrepressible, diverse movement made by and for the fans.
