On Avenida de la Purísima in Torrevieja, firefighters were called to extinguish a fire that had erupted in an apartment building. At approximately 7:20 p.m. yesterday, Tuesday April 21st, the fire began in a first-floor apartment of a five-storey building.
The building’s façade, particularly the second floor, was significantly affected by the flames and smoke that emanated from the balcony and were visible from the street. The city centre was pervaded by a potent smoke odour that extended as far as La Mata. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the entire building was promptly evacuated.

The dispatch was received by firefighters from the Torrevieja fire station at 7:33 p.m. Firefighting operations to extinguish the fire was followed by them preventing its spread to the remaining residences and common areas of the building.
Two fire engines were dispatched to the site, along with six firefighters from the city’s fire station, a sergeant, and a corporal. In addition, the Guardia Civil and the Local Police deployed numerous patrols, and a SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) unit was dispatched; however, it was not required to intervene due to the current paucity of information.

Alarm
Four residences at the intersection of Ramón Gallud and Calle María Parodi were damaged by another fire last Friday, which occurred just four days prior to the incident. The immediate dissemination of images and videos on social media without additional information has caused alarm and fuelled rumours—which are presently unconfirmed—that individuals were trapped inside the building, similar to the earlier fire.
