A man has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in connection with the theft of a semi-automatic defibrillator from a public sports facility in Novelda. The device, which was intended to address potential emergencies during sports activities, was taken from the skating rinks of the municipal sports complex. It is valued at 3,000 euros.
The incident took place on April 14th in the afternoon, when an individual forced open the crate containing the device and stole it. Not only did the facility suffer financial losses, but the defibrillator’s disappearance also deprived its users of this emergency resource.
Device research and recovery
Agents from the Investigation Unit of the Guardia Civil in Novelda initiated an investigation in response to the allegation in order to ascertain the circumstances. A woman’s information that a man had attempted to sell an undocumented defibrillator to a healthcare company was a critical factor in this process.
Investigators were able to identify the putative perpetrator, a 38-year-old man from Monforte del Cid who had no prior criminal record, as a result of that communication. The stolen device was recovered by officers at his residence, and he was subsequently detained for alleged burglary.
The municipal authorities have already received the defibrillator, and as a result, its service has been reinstated at the affected sporting facilities.
Legal circumstances
Following the completion of the proceedings, the detainee was released, and the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Novelda has been informed of the circumstances.
