The Benidorm local government has completed an expansion of the callisthenics area on Poniente beach, specifically located on Avenida Vicente Llorca Alós. This project, which involved the installation of several new exercise elements, is the direct result of a collaboration between the municipal administration and local residents through the Participatory Budgeting scheme.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, visited the site early in the morning alongside the councillors for Sport, Citizen Participation, and Beaches—Javier Jordá, Ana Pellicer, and Mónica Gómez. The group inspected the facilities just before the arrival of the first morning users.
This upgrade was one of the most supported proposals during the 2025 Participatory Budgeting vote. The expansion of the “Street Workout” zone includes triple parallel bars, rings with chains, a reinforced freestyle bar, and wall bars. These new features are constructed from galvanised metal with a zinc coating to prevent corrosion, a finish that carries a ten-year guarantee against oxidation. Additionally, the bars feature a special plastic coating designed to offer better grip, thermal insulation, and greater durability than standard powder paint.
Toni Pérez confirmed that the project required an investment of 17,382.86 euro. These funds were drawn from the 5% of the municipal budget dedicated to projects proposed and voted on by Benidorm residents in coordination with the neighbourhood council.
In addition to the workout equipment, a new wooden walkway has been installed to ensure the area is accessible for people with reduced mobility. Since its original opening in April 2017, the facility has become a popular meeting point for those looking to improve their strength, flexibility, and coordination through outdoor exercise.
The Mayor also reminded residents that the window for submitting new proposals for the 2027 Participatory Budgeting cycle remains open until 30 September. Any adult resident can submit ideas to improve the city via the municipal website, email, or in person at the town hall.
