An off-duty police officer has been praised for his quick actions after intervening in a domestic assault in Denia. The incident resulted in the arrest of a 74-year-old man who was caught in the act of attacking his wife inside their family home.
The officer, who is a member of the National Police family protection unit, was walking in the street when he heard desperate screams coming from a nearby property. Upon investigating, he discovered the front door of the house had been left open. Moving inside, the officer witnessed the elderly man repeatedly striking his wife in the face.
The victim, also aged 74, was found cowering on a sofa and bleeding from her injuries. The officer immediately identified himself as a member of the police force and successfully restrained the assailant until backup arrived.
Following the intervention, the woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported to a local health centre by ambulance for further medical attention. The husband was taken into custody by the National Police.
