Emergency services were called into action yesterday morning, Saturday May 16th, to rescue a woman who suffered a serious leg injury while out in the countryside. The 46-year-old woman was navigating a forest track in the municipality of Hondón de las Nieves when she fell, sustaining what is believed to be a fractured ankle.
The Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium received the emergency call at 11:10 am after it became clear the woman was unable to continue her journey on foot. Due to the location and the nature of the injury, a specialist Mountain Rescue Group (GER) was deployed to the scene via helicopter to locate and evacuate the casualty.
Upon arrival, a rescue worker descended from the aircraft to reach the injured woman. She was then secured and lifted into the helicopter using a crane. The operation concluded successfully at around 1:30 pm when the helicopter landed at the Elche fire station helipad. The patient was immediately transferred into the care of medical professionals for further treatment.
