Officers from the National Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in Elche after he allegedly posed as an internet company technician to rob the home of an elderly woman.
The suspect turned up at the victim’s house pretending to be an operator. Growing suspicious of his intentions, the woman attempted to close the front door. However, the man prevented her from doing so by jamming his foot between the frame and the door, before forcing his way inside with a violent push.
As a result of the shove, the victim fell to the ground and struck a piece of furniture in the hallway while the man entered the property. Once inside, he stole a large television and fled the scene. The woman later discovered that several pieces of jewellery, which had been kept inside a jewellery box in one of the bedrooms, were also missing.
Officers from the Forensic Police Unit visited the property and gathered conclusive evidence that helped identify the suspect. Following the investigation, police located and arrested the man on suspicion of robbery with violence inside a residential property.
The investigation was carried out by officers from the Judicial Police Unit of the National Police Station in Elche, with assistance from the Forensic Police Unit. Following the completion of police proceedings, the detained man has been placed at the disposal of the duty investigative courts in Elche.
