A criminal gang specialising in ram-raids is facing trial for a series of crimes committed across Alicante and Murcia, including armed robbery, drug trafficking and the shooting of a man in Almoradí. The Provincial Court of Alicante is holding the trial for nine suspected members of the network, who allegedly carried out at least five ram-raids at establishments in Elche, Torrevieja and San Javier. The prosecution is seeking prison sentences of up to 34 years for the defendants.
According to the prosecution, the group operated between November 2020 and February 2021, using high-end stolen vehicles to crash into the windows of businesses and steal items. The most serious incident occurred in January 2021 in Almoradí, where members of the gang allegedly broke into a home to steal marijuana. During the raid, they shot a man in the leg and hit him on the head with a pistol.
The Guardia Civil arrested the suspects in February 2021 during a series of raids. Officers seized four firearms, ammunition, 2.5 kilograms of marijuana, half a kilogram of hashish, and 12,000 euro in cash. The defendants face various charges, including membership of a criminal organisation, robbery with intimidation, attempted murder, cannabis cultivation, and possession of illegal weapons.
