The trial of professional footballer Rafa Mir has commenced at the fourth section of the Provincial Court of Valencia, where he faces serious allegations of sexual assault. The accuser gave her testimony to the court whilst protected behind a screen.
According to the account presented in the courtroom, the incident took place at a property where the young woman alleges that the footballer assaulted her in a swimming pool. In her statement, she testified that the player put his fingers inside her vagina and prevented her from leaving the water. She told the court that he was stuck close to her, and despite her stating that she wanted to leave, he did not initially allow her to do so.
The young woman eventually managed to get away from the footballer, who currently plays for Elche CF, and exited the swimming pool. Upon getting out, she discovered that her handbag and mobile phone were missing, as they had remained inside the property.
A male witness who gave evidence during the hearing stated he believed the young woman had simply become overwhelmed and wanted to go home. He also claimed that when the two young women left the house, they caused a major scene outside. Furthermore, the witness asserted that it was a lie that Mir had punched the other young woman involved, though he did acknowledge that she displayed a cut on the inside of her lip.
The Prosecution is seeking a ten-year prison sentence for the footballer.
