A wave of thefts has struck Elche, with thieves breaking into schools, building sites and businesses in a short space of time. National Police officers have arrested two men, aged 43 and 50, in connection with the crimes.
The investigation began after a series of break-ins with force were reported across various locations surrounding the Los Palmerales neighbourhood in Elche. Officers noticed that the incidents shared a common method of entry and took place in close proximity to one another, allowing investigators to identify a clear pattern.
According to the police, the perpetrators gained access to the properties by climbing up walls or by breaking through doors, windows and perimeter fencing. The stolen items included tools, construction materials, laptop computers and school supplies.
In one of the schools targeted, the thieves went as far as stealing a water heater. This caused a severe flood and significant water damage, which disrupted the normal running of teaching activities.
Police officers noted that the methods used showed a lack of planning and specialisation, as the suspects relied on simple and direct entry methods to break in quickly, with the sole aim of selling the stolen items to fund their addictions. The two arrested men have been placed at the disposal of the Elche Guard investigative courts following the completion of police proceedings.
