A man in his 50s has been injured after a balcony collapsed from the ninth floor of a hotel and plummeted into the swimming pool area.
The incident occurred at the Izan Cavanna Hotel in La Manga del Mar Menor, within the municipality of Cartagena. Emergency services were alerted at 7.37pm on Friday, 12th June, following multiple calls to the 112 emergency line reporting that the structure had broken away from the ninth floor of the building.
The falling structure landed directly in the hotel’s swimming pool area, where the man was injured. The incident triggered a large response from emergency services, with local police, firefighters, Civil Protection units from Cartagena, and a 061 emergency mobile unit dispatched to the tourist complex.
Medical personnel treated the injured man at the scene before transferring him to the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital. The hospital’s emergency department was alerted ahead of his arrival.
Following the rescue, a crew of firefighters remained at the hotel to inspect the facade, clear away any remaining debris, and cordoned off the affected area to ensure safety. No further details regarding the victim’s current condition or the cause of the collapse have been released.
