A spectacular fire has completely destroyed a vehicle on one of the access roads to the El Pla sports complex tracks in Elche. Despite the dramatic nature of the flames and the dense column of black smoke generated by the blaze, the incident ended without any injuries or personal harm to the occupants of the car or nearby pedestrians.
The incident occurred at midday when the owner of the vehicle noticed thick white smoke and flames starting to emerge from the car. According to explanations later given to officers deployed to the scene, the fire started suddenly after the driver turned on the car’s air conditioning system.
The severity of the situation required the immediate mobilisation of emergency and public safety services. Firefighters rushed to the scene and acted quickly to extinguish the blaze, preventing the flames from spreading to other nearby structures.
In addition, local and national police officers established a safety perimeter around the affected area to guarantee the protection of the public and to assist the firefighting efforts. The intervention was particularly important due to the large column of black smoke generated by the fire and the intensity of the flames, which reached a significant height and drew a large crowd of onlookers.
Although the vehicle was completely gutted by the fire, material damage to the surrounding area was limited. As a consequence of the high temperatures reached during the blaze and the height of the flames, two public streetlights were damaged. The awning of a nearby business also suffered damage due to its proximity to the fire during the most intense moments of the incident.
Conversely, vehicles parked next to the burning car did not suffer any damage, preventing the incident from causing wider material consequences.
The situation returned to normal after the municipal tow truck removed the burnt-out vehicle to the corresponding pound. Subsequently, the joint venture cleaning service cleared the road and removed the debris from the accident to restore normality to the area. Following the completion of the extinguishing, removal, and cleaning tasks, the area was fully restored to normal within a few minutes, bringing an end to an incident that, despite its spectacular nature, caused no personal injury.
