Three local police officers have been injured during an operation by the Santa Pola Local Police against a suspected gang specialising in robberies with force at residential properties. The operation led to the tracking, pursuit, and arrest of at least one suspected member of the gang.
According to the police force, the intervention took place after suspicious movements linked to potential house robberies were detected in the western area of Santa Pola and other points across the municipality. The action prevented several homes from being robbed and triggered a coordinated operation in which the Guardia Civil also continues to work.
During the deployment, officers managed to locate and pursue several suspected members of the group specialising in break-ins at residential properties. The intervention resulted in the arrest of at least one member of the gang, according to information shared by the Santa Pola Local Police. The police force indicated that the investigation remains open alongside the Guardia Civil, meaning further actions related to these events cannot be ruled out.
The operation resulted in three local police officers being injured, all of whom required treatment at various health centres. The Local Police have publicly wished a speedy and full recovery to the affected officers who were hurt whilst on duty. The event highlights the complexity of this type of operation, particularly when dealing with organised groups dedicated to residential robberies with the capacity to flee.
As part of the operation, officers also pursued a vehicle allegedly involved in the crimes. According to the Local Police, officers prioritised road safety and the protection of third parties at all times, acting with caution and professionalism to avoid creating a risk greater than the one they were trying to neutralise. The pursuit ended within the municipal boundaries of Elche.
The investigation remains open in coordination with the Guardia Civil, with the aim of clarifying the facts, determining the level of involvement of those implicated, and moving forward with potential new actions.
Following the events, the Santa Pola Local Police highlighted the decisive role played by public collaboration. The rapid response of several residents, who observed suspicious movements in both the western area and other points of the municipality, allowed them to immediately alert officers and trigger the police response. Thanks to those calls, a coordinated intervention was possible, preventing several families from becoming victims of robberies in their homes.
“Your call can make the difference,” the Local Police stated in their message of thanks to the public. The police force expressed special gratitude to the residents who, when faced with a suspicious situation, did not look the other way and instead notified the security forces, describing an attentive and responsible public as their “best ally”.
