Four men have been arrested by the National Police following a high-speed car chase that began in Elche and concluded in the Region of Murcia, leading to the seizure of eight Kalashnikov assault rifles.
The incident unfolded on the A-7 motorway when the suspects noticed they were being monitored by the National Police within the municipality of Elche. The suspects immediately accelerated, initiating a dramatic pursuit. During the escape, the fleeing vehicle rammed police cars on two separate occasions, forcing them off the road and causing substantial material damage.
The high-speed pursuit finally came to an end in the neighbouring region of Murcia. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered a cache of warfare-grade weaponry, consisting of eight Kalashnikov assault rifles.
A subsequent investigation enabled officers to identify, locate, and arrest the four suspected individuals in Alicante and San Vicente del Raspeig. The detainees, aged between 21 and 43, all have prior police records. They are currently facing charges of weapons trafficking, membership of a criminal group, offences against road safety, and assaulting law enforcement officers.
According to authorities, the interception of these military-grade firearms represents a highly significant achievement for public safety, as such weapons are routinely linked to organised crime syndicates and severe offences, including homicide and drug trafficking.
