The Guardia Civil has arrested a 45-year-old man in Novelda who was wanted on two European arrest warrants issued by Germany for offences related to public disorder. The arrest took place at an operational checkpoint set up on one of the main access roads into the municipality.
The events occurred whilst Guardia Civil officers from Novelda were carrying out a vehicle and person verification checkpoint as part of their crime prevention services. During the control, a van with German registration plates raised the suspicions of the officers, who proceeded to signal for it to stop in order to identify the driver. Upon checking his documentation against police databases, they verified that the man had two active European warrants issued by the German authorities.
In addition, the officers confirmed that the vehicle he was driving was also wanted by Germany, and it was subsequently seized at the scene. Following his transfer to police facilities, investigators conducted enquiries through SIRENE, the office responsible for information exchange and coordination between countries within the Schengen area. These checks confirmed that the German authorities had listed the arrested man among their most wanted individuals.
The detained man was placed at the disposal of the Investigation Section of the Central Court of First Instance, which decreed his release with precautionary measures. These measures include the withdrawal of his passport and the obligation to appear periodically before the judicial authority.
