A string of fires struck Guardamar del Segura overnight between Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July, resulting in significant damage to eight parked vehicles. The blazes initially ignited on Calle Doctor Luis Rivera before spreading to other nearby streets throughout the town.
According to the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium, authorities believe an individual intentionally and systematically targeted the vehicles. The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation to establish the facts, identify the suspected perpetrator, and determine whether the fires are connected.
Emergency services received the initial alert at 11:04 p.m. on Saturday. Firefighting teams were immediately dispatched to various locations in the vicinity to extinguish the flames and stop the fire from spreading to additional vehicles, a task made difficult by how closely the cars were parked to one another.
The operation required the attendance of fire crews from the Almoradí and Orihuela fire stations, with reinforcements arriving from the Torrevieja fire station to assist in Guardamar del Segura. Firefighters worked for approximately five hours, finally bringing the situation under control around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday. The teams remained on-site during this period to dampen down the areas and ensure there were no remaining embers or hotspots that could reignite.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during the incident. While the damage was restricted to property, several of the vehicles sustained extensive destruction due to the fire and intense heat.
