The Full Council of Corvera Town Hall will debate the initial approval of a feasibility study tomorrow, Tuesday 28th July, regarding the draft project for the repair and operation of the Los Balagares municipal golf course. This step aims to advance the process of recovering the sports facility, which has been closed to the public since October 2018.
According to details provided by the Town Hall on Saturday, the document outlines the necessary actions to restore the course to optimal conditions following years of neglect. The plan covers repair and improvement works for the course, the clubhouse, and adjoining buildings, carrying a material execution budget of 1.7 million euro.
The municipal proposal involves tendering an administrative works and operation concession for a 40-year period. The successful concessionaire will draft the final project, carry out the required restoration works, and manage as well as maintain the site. The Town Hall confirmed that it will retain public ownership of the golf course at all times.
The Mayor of Corvera, Iván Fernández, highlighted that this represents a decisive step toward recovering a municipal facility that has remained closed for too long due to circumstances outside the control of the Town Hall. He noted that following a long administrative and judicial procedure to recover this public asset, the phase to return it to citizens has now begun.
The mayor explained that current legislation permits the concession to proceed without requiring a fee paid to the council, allowing the company to recover its investment through the commercial exploitation of the venue over the concession period.
The draft project will undergo a one-month public consultation phase once published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA). If no objections are submitted during this timeframe, it will receive final approval without returning to the Full Council. The local authority noted that this procedure mirrors the process previously used for the viability plan, which passed without objections.
