An 83-year-old man has died after drowning while snorkelling at Poniente beach in Benidorm on Sunday, 26th July.
Sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) confirmed the tragic incident and noted that an autopsy will determine the precise cause of the drowning.
Upon receiving the emergency alert on Sunday, the CICU dispatched a Urgent Medical Aid Service (SAMU) unit to the scene. The attending medical team carried out advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) alongside other stabilization techniques. However, the elderly man did not respond to treatment, and doctors confirmed his death at the scene.
Following the incident, the Generalitat highlighted that guidance and safety advice on how to prevent drownings can be accessed on the Health Emergency Service website of the Regional Ministry of Health.
