Guardia Civil officers have arrested three men, aged 34 and 26, from Algeria after discovering more than 30,000 methamphetamine pills weighing over 11.5 kilos during a vehicle check on the AP-7 highway close to Pilar de la Horadada. Officers also seized an unexplained amount of cash during the operation.
The event took place during a security check organised by the Citizen Security Unit of Torrevieja on a major route in the province. As the operation concluded, officers observed a vehicle approaching quickly. Upon spotting the police checkpoint, the passengers made suspicious movements inside the car, leading officers to pull it over.
According to the Guardia Civil, the driver initially attempted to disregard instructions before bringing the car to a halt. During checks, the three occupants displayed signs of nervousness and tried communicating discreetly, heightening officers’ suspicions.

During a search of the vehicle, Guardia Civil officers discovered six bags in the boot containing over 30,000 multicoloured pills that tested positive for methamphetamine. The occupants were also found with cash that they could not satisfactorily account for.
The seized narcotics, weighing more than 11.5 kilos, would have supplied substantial distribution across the illegal market, stated the Guardia Civil.
The three arrested individuals have appeared before the Orihuela Court of First Instance facing allegations of a crime against public health. Enquiries continue to establish the source and destination of the recovered drugs.
