Emergency crews from the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium were deployed on Saturday morning, 1st August, to perform two separate mountain rescues involving an injured cyclist in Petrer and a fallen hiker in Finestrat.
The first incident occurred at around 10:25 am near the source of the Rabosa River in Petrer. A cyclist suffered a fall down a steep embankment measuring approximately ten metres. The casualty sustained a head injury alongside various other injuries, rendering him unable to continue his route. Given the difficult ground access across the terrain, a rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene.
Once located, the cyclist received initial medical treatment from emergency personnel before being airlifted to Elda Heliport. A SAMU ambulance unit was waiting at the site to transfer the patient to Elda Hospital.
Shortly afterwards, at around 11:30 am, emergency services were called to another incident on Monte Ponoig in Finestrat. A 53-year-old hiker slipped and fell roughly six metres while ascending towards the summit at the Cigarrí pass.
Suffering from pain in his left leg, the casualty was rescued and flown by helicopter to the Finestrat helipad, where he was transferred to a Basic Life Support (SVB) ambulance team.
