A driver has been arrested on the Orihuela Costa following a high-risk police intervention during which he attempted to flee from officers and violently rammed a police vehicle on Sunday 16th August.
The incident began when local police officers detected a vehicle in an area close to the beach, which was busy with a large number of local residents. The car matched the description of a vehicle that had recently been stolen.
When officers attempted to inspect the vehicle, the driver embarked on a reckless escape towards the N-332, endangering people in the surrounding area. According to the local police, the most dangerous moment of the operation occurred when the individual deliberately chose to violently ram the police vehicle driving ahead of him, despite having two alternative streets available to continue his escape.
The sudden manoeuvre forced the officers to pull aside at the final moment to avoid a high-speed collision from behind. The crash caused an accident and damaged the police vehicle, but officers immediately continued with the operation.
After swiftly exiting their vehicle, police officers initiated a pursuit on foot and ultimately managed to intercept the suspect. The individual put up fierce resistance during the arrest, forcing officers to deploy a Taser to successfully subdue him.
The operation concluded with the driver’s arrest under particularly complex circumstances, owing to the large influx of people in Orihuela Costa during this period.
