Torrevieja rower Javier Garcia has secured sixth place in the PR1 single sculls event at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. The result marks his finest international placement to date, further cementing his position among the top competitors worldwide.
The championship held at the Bosbaan canal was severely impacted by difficult weather conditions. High winds, torrential rain, and an electrical storm forced officials to pause competition for over an hour.
Despite the challenging climate, the athlete representing Real Club Nautico Torrevieja built momentum throughout the regatta. During the semi-final stage, Garcia staged a remarkable late comeback. Closing in on his Israeli competitor in the final 200 metres, he crossed the line in 9:15.29 ahead of his rival’s 9:17.98 to secure his place in the final.
Garcia ultimately completed the event as the sixth fastest in the world. Defending world champion Pritchard, from Great Britain, secured first place with a time of 9:01.96, while Italy’s Perini took second place finishing in 9:08.26.
This sixth-place finish rounds off an impressive international campaign for Garcia, who also finished sixth at the World Cup in Lucerne and seventh at the European Championships. With the top seven finishers next year earning qualifying spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, Garcia remains firmly on track towards his Paralympic goals.
Reflecting on his performance, Garcia described the finish as his best international result yet and noted that he was on the right path. Real Club Nautico Torrevieja extended its congratulations to the athlete for his dedication, perseverance, and remarkable progress.
