National Police officers have arrested a 20-year-old man in Alicante who has been accused of defrauding more than 3,400 euro through the sale of fake high-end mobile phones that were actually replicas. The suspect allegedly offered the devices through a digital second-hand buying and selling platform, leading to the resolution of four scams committed in Alicante and Castelló.
The investigation began following several complaints warning about advertisements offering mobile phones for prices ranging between 800 and 900 euro, according to a statement from the security forces. After the victims contacted the seller to arrange a meeting, he would show them the devices and provide a purchase invoice to try to prove their authenticity.
Convinced that they were original devices, the buyers paid the agreed amount in cash, only to later discover that they were replicas and that the invoices shown to them were fake. Officers carried out various investigative tasks that made it possible to confirm the falsification of the documentation provided and to determine that the handsets commercialised were not original, the police force indicated.
Finally, the young man was located and arrested for his alleged involvement in offences of fraud and document forgery. Following the completion of police procedures, the proceedings have been placed at the disposal of the courts in Alicante.
