Four people have sustained injuries following a residential fire that broke out in an apartment on the ninth floor of a 16-storey building in the Alicante municipality of Benidorm.
According to reports from the Coordination and Information Centre for Emergencies, the blaze originated in the early hours of yesterday morning, Wednesday 30th September, at around 4:00 am, in a property situated on Avenida Mediterráneo in Benidorm. Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames by 7:35 am.
To tackle the emergency, the firefighting service deployed two command units, two heavy urban pump units, an aerial ladder truck, a sub-officer, a sergeant, two corporals, and ten firefighters from the Benidorm fire station.
Crews focused their efforts on extinguishing the fire while simultaneously preventing it from spreading throughout the building and evacuating residents from floors located closest to the blaze.
The apartment where the fire started was completely burnt out, though emergency services managed to stop the flames from advancing further. All evacuated residents have since been able to return to their homes.
Meanwhile, medical services treated four individuals for smoke inhalation. Two men aged 40 and 75, along with a 43-year-old woman, were transferred to the Marina Baixa Hospital, while a 79-year-old man was taken to the Benidorm Clinic.
