National Police officers have arrested a 29-year-old French national in Orihuela who was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant issued by authorities in France. The man is believed to be a member of an international criminal network dedicated to violent robberies.
The investigation began after French authorities alerted the National Police that the suspect was suspected of hiding out in the province of Alicante. Investigators focused their search on the Vega Baja area, ultimately tracking the man down to his residence in Orihuela, where officers carried out the arrest without incident.
The charges stem from two jewellery robberies that took place in 2024 in the French city of Bayeux, resulting in a total estimated loss of 500,000€. According to the investigation, the suspect was part of a structured criminal group operating on an international scale, and he could face a maximum prison sentence of 15 years alongside a fine of 375,000€ in France.
Following the completion of police procedures, the detained man was brought before the Central Investigating Court of the National Court, which handles the proceedings for his potential extradition.
