The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, alongside the Sports Councillor, Diana Box, welcomed Real Club Náutico Torrevieja athletes Ánder Martín and Esther Briz to acknowledge their victories at the Beach Sprint European Championship, held on 17th September in La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz. They were joined during the reception by the club president, Carlos Carmona.
Both members of the senior Spanish national team secured the gold medal in their respective individual male and female categories, adding another international triumph to the Torrevieja club’s record.
Eduardo Dolón congratulated both athletes on their results, noting that it is a source of pride for Torrevieja to count on sportspeople like Ánder Martín and Esther Briz, who represent effort, consistency, and the capacity for self-improvement. He added that these European titles are recognition of many hours of training and a career path that deserves congratulations and gratitude.
The mayor also highlighted the visibility that their triumphs bring to the city, thanking them for carrying the name of Torrevieja and the Real Club Náutico to the highest levels of international sport. He remarked that their achievements bring joy to the entire city and serve as an example for young people starting out in sport who find a role model in them.
Ánder Martín secured the individual men’s European title after defeating competitors from Switzerland, Germany, and Finland in succession. This victory improved upon the silver medal he achieved in Turkey in 2025. His career includes five gold and two bronze medals at world level in coastal rowing, two golds and a silver at European level, two Mediterranean Games titles, and over thirty medals in Spanish championships.
Meanwhile, Esther Briz was crowned European champion in the women’s individual event after defeating the defending champion from Austria in the final. She had previously overcome the Portuguese rower in the quarter-finals and the British competitor in the semi-finals. Briz holds two world titles in junior and senior conventional rowing categories and four world titles in coastal rowing and Beach Sprint, alongside European titles, sixteen Spanish championships, and an Olympic diploma from Paris 2024. This year she also achieved a milestone by becoming the first Spanish woman to win the women’s Boat Race with Oxford.
The next challenge for both athletes will be the Beach Sprint World Championship, scheduled from 18th to 20th October in Qingdao, China, as part of their preparations toward the Olympic debut of this discipline at Los Ángeles 2028.
During the reception, Eduardo Dolón also acknowledged the work of the RCNT, extending his congratulations to Carlos Carmona and the entire Real Club Náutico Torrevieja family for the work they undertake in training and supporting athletes, emphasising that behind every medal there are also coaches, teammates, and families who share the effort and make these successes possible.
